Is Icy Strait Point on your Alaskan cruise itinerary? Read this post before you go.
If you are still on the fence about whether you want to try cruising, read this post - Cruising - A Budget Friendly Vacation.
This was the first look we got of Icy Strait Point and we were ready to leave the ship to explore another beautiful part of Alaska.
We cruise a lot. I have taken many selfies and group shots of us standing in front of our cruise ship. It is usually bright and sunny and we are wearing bathing suits and cover ups. This was not the case in Alaska. I look at this picture and somehow it doesn't look right to me lol!
This life-sized statue of an orca at the port got us excited for the Whale Watching Excursion we were doing this day.

It was so cold on the boat and it was drizzling. We were very glad we wore our raincoats.

We saw a good number of whales. Mostly we just got a glimpse of a fin or back after we looked in the direction of a spout coming out of a blowhole.

But it was definitely fun and we did get treated to watching one whale closer up who stayed near the ship coming up a few times. JT got a great video of it. This was the best shot I got of a whale that day.

When we got back from our excursion we still had enough time to walk into the town of Hoonah.
We passed
That does sound like another fun adventure day. While we've never been whale watching we did get to see some humpback whales while we went snorkeling in Hawaii. Like you we mostly turned to look after someone spotted an exhale and then we'd see a fin or a tale or a dark looking log in the water. It was still really neat though.
ReplyDelete"Dark looking log" is a great description of what we saw also but even though they were not jumping out of the water like the SeaWorld whales, it was still very amazing seeing them.
DeleteWhat a beautiful place - Alaska is high on my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteHope you get to cross Alaska off your bucket list one day soon!
DeleteI think I need to go to Alaska! Thank you for sharing this post with us at the Will Blog for Comments #58 linkup. Looking forward to seeing what you share at #59, which opens Monday.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do go one day. I think you will love it!
DeleteIt sounds like another successful adventure. I wish we could get out more, we have been searching for dog friendly places to visit here lately. Of course, I doubt they have our little monster in mind when they say dog friendly, lol. He's pretty good, just likes to bark when he sees other dogs, and men... where could we go wrong with a trip and him in tow? You have some amazing memories that you share here Cathy.
ReplyDeleteWe see lots of dogs at the campgrounds we visit during the summer. If you like traveling in an RV this works just fine for doggies and their owners! Hope you can figure something out. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteLovely place to visit!
ReplyDeleteIt really was! Thanks for taking a virtual visit with us!
DeleteOur plans for a cruise to Alaska include the month of June! I am really looking forward to heading North!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great time!

DeleteDear life of 2 snowbirds
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming by and for your kind comments. Here is a response to it and also to visiting your blog
as well.
Thank you and yes the Charleston area is lovely. That is so neat you live near Sebring....I think the last
show might be next week, so that means it will be completed I guess, at least their part. We have really enjoyed watching it. Well, you will have to make downtown Sebring a new place to visit. Hope you can find it and watch it. From one Floridian to another welcome to the world of blogging, I am assuming you are a new blogger....am I correct?? I have been blogging since May of 2011 and have really enjoyed it.........and the neat thing is you sort of have bit of your life recorded, as well as family recipes. Blessings to you two.
Nellie
